Providing everyday essentials to those in need

There are more than 24,500 people experiencing homelessness across Victoria.

Who we are

Blessing Bags was founded in June 2015 by the then 18-year-old Laura, who saw people living on the streets of Melbourne on her commute to university. Laura was compelled to do something to help, so she started Blessing Bags based on the quote, "Now that I have seen, I am responsible". Today, Blessing Bags is run by a team of committed volunteers who aim to make a difference.
Based on the Mornington Peninsula, Blessing Bags is a Melbourne-based initiative that assembles and distributes hygiene packs to those experiencing homelessness and/or disadvantage. The hygiene packs contain essential personal care items as well as a handwritten note of hope and positivity so that the recipient knows that they are not alone.

What we do

Our impact

Blessing Bags have the privilege of providing bags to a wide range of individuals and communities across Melbourne and surrounds. We partner with organisations, crisis centres, schools, community groups and businesses who reach out to us for support. These groups/organisations pass on bags to those they work with who are in need of some extra support.

This can include people going through homeless/insecure housing, addiction/substance abuse, domestic violence, loss of income and mental health difficulties to name a few. Not only do these bags assist in keeping these people as healthy and hygienic as possible, but it also helps them maintain their dignity and assists them in trying to maintain relationships and jobs.

Blessing Bags Melbourne would like to acknowledge the Wurundjeri and Bunurong people of the Kulin Nation as traditional owners and custodians of the land on which we work. We acknowledge that the land was never ceded and we pay our respect to them, their customs, their culture, to elders past and present and to their emerging leaders.
